PostHeaderIcon WASHINGTONIA

Washingtonia (Washingtonia, H. Wendl. 1879) belongs to the Arecales family. The name of this palm was chosen to honor George Washington. It comes from California and Arizona and it can reach 30 metres in height. Washingtonia includes two species: Californiana Palm (Washingtonia thread-bearing) and Mexican Palm (Washingtonia robust). The Washingtonia robust has a thinner trunk, it is higher and it grows faster than the Washingtonia thread-bearing. The major difference between the two palms is the colour of the base of the stem. It is red-crimsom for the Washingtonia robust and green for the Washingtonia thread-bearing. [Wikipedia]
